.grow your own clothes.
SUZANNE LEE. when see taught of clothes she taught about cotton, synthetics. But know, years later, see thinks of bacteria, cells, biologic products and chemicals.
Using a recipe of green tea, sugar, bacteria and yeast she is able to ‘grow’ a material which she describes as a kind of “vegetable leather”. All the materials are organic, only the chemicals she needs for the process are not.
When the process is completed, you just let it dry and in the end it is a material which you can compare to leather and paper. it is super tin and has a very nice, natural, nude color. by letting it dry on a 3d form, you can shape it.
growing your own clothes is a really nice project, it is a beautifull way of combining the world of fashion and science, biology. luckily the project is not yet to end, there are a lot of things left suzanne wants to accomplish, for example making the clothes water resistant, which would be handy because now, the material absorbs the water, so you can’t wear it with rainy weather.
